Sport Performance & Recovery

Is sports massage suitable for non-athletes?

Absolutely. Sports massage is suitable for any active individual experiencing muscle tension, soreness, or needing enhanced muscle recovery.

Can massage enhance sports performance and recovery?

Regular treatments may improve circulation, which is essential for recovery. Moreover, it can reduce muscle tension and increase flexibility, which in turn may enhance overall sports performance.

Can massage help prevent injuries?

Yes, regular treatments can help identify and address muscle imbalances and tightness early, reducing the risk of injury.

Can massage improve flexibility?

Yes, regular treatments can help increase your flexibility by reducing muscle tightness, improving range of motion, and gradually lengthening the muscles through passive stretching techniques.

Should I prepare before my appointment?

Hydrate well in the hours leading up to your treatment, but avoid drinks and especially heavy meals immediately before your appointment.

What should I expect during my appointment?

The first appointment includes a consultation to discuss your sports activities and any areas of concern, followed by a tailored treatment.

How often should I receive a massage?

Frequency depends on your training intensity and goals, but generally, once a week or bi-weekly treatments are recommended for optimal results.

Treatments every 3+ weeks are usually for general maintenance purposes only.

Are there any side effects?

In general, massage may temporarily increase inflammation, signalling your body where attention is needed and promoting the healing process.

Some patients may experience mild soreness or fatigue, which typically resolves within a day. Hydration with essential minerals (a pinch of Celtic salt or a few drops of trace minerals) and rest can help mitigate these effects. Similar to physical exercise, if you haven't worked out in a long time, you may feel soreness. This also applies to physical therapies.

How does massage contribute to muscle healing?*

Massage therapy, particularly mechanotherapy, has been scientifically proven to accelerate muscle healing and enhance strength. Through consistent and tunable compressive forces, this therapy clears immune cells and removes inflammatory cytokines, fostering optimal muscle fiber regeneration.

Can massage influence the immune system?*

Yes, there is a clear connection between mechanical stimulation and immune function. Massage therapy not only expedites muscle healing but also has the potential to regenerate various tissues, including bone, tendon, hair, and skin. This drug-free, non-invasive approach offers promise for patients with conditions preventing drug-based interventions.

How does massage impact muscle regeneration at a cellular level?*

Massage therapy effectively removes immune cells called neutrophils and associated cytokines from injured muscle tissue. This process enhances muscle fibre regeneration by reducing inflammation and promoting optimal muscle function. The therapy's ability to influence the immune system in a drug-free, non-invasive way is considered remarkable.

Is massage applicable to injuries and age-related muscle loss?*

The potential applications extend to various injuries, age-related muscle loss, and muscle performance enhancement. This indicates the versatility of massage therapy in addressing a range of conditions.

Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation

Can massage help with injury prevention and rehabilitation?

Massage may act as a preventative measure by improving circulation, reducing muscle tension, and enhancing flexibility. It may also reduce scar tissue formation, improve circulation, and decrease pain and stiffness post-surgery.

Can massage support with chronic pain management?

Yes, massage therapy may be very effective in managing chronic pain by reducing muscle tension and improving blood flow.

What conditions can be treated?

Regular treatments may effectively treat a range of common injuries such as muscle strains, ligament sprains, tendonitis, and post-surgical recovery, and help speed up the healing process, reduce pain, and restore function.

How soon after an injury/surgery can I start with massage?

It is best to consult with your healthcare provider, but treatments can often be initiated within a few days to weeks post-injury/surgery.

Can massage replace physical therapy for rehabilitation?

While massage therapy complements physical therapy, it should not replace it. Usually physical therapy with your specialist focuses on the acute phase and massage therapy on the long-term rehabilitation phase. Both therapies together provide comprehensive care.

Should I prepare before my appointment?

Hydrate well in the hours leading up to your treatment, but avoid drinks and especially heavy meals immediately before your appointment.

What should I expect during my appointment?

Your first appointment includes a detailed assessment of your injury, followed by targeted techniques to aid in your recovery.

How often should I receive a massage?

The frequency depends on the severity of your injury and your overall treatment plan, but typically, treatments are recommended weekly or bi-weekly.

Nervous System Regulation

How does nervous system regulation work?

This therapy uses techniques to balance neural pathways, reduce stress responses, and improve overall neural function.

Can nervous system regulation help with sleep disorders?

Yes, by calming the nervous system, this therapy may help improve sleep quality and reduce insomnia.

Can nervous system regulation help with chronic pain?

Yes, by addressing neural imbalances, this therapy can help alleviate chronic pain and improve quality of life.

What conditions can be treated?

Conditions include chronic stress with any physical manifestation, anxiety, PTSD, and other trauma-related symptoms.

These physical manifestations are often not addressed by your healthcare provider as there may be no identifiable physical reasons for them to be present.

How does nervous system regulation differ from massage therapy?

While traditional massage focuses on muscle and tissue manipulation, nervous system regulation targets neural pathways to address stress and trauma responses. Moreover, it can be performed fully clothed.
